Performing as a singer-songwriter in the folk-roots genre since 1969, Lionel Rault has shared stages with the likes of John Hiatt, Willie Dixon, John Hammond, Taj Mahal, J.J. Cale, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, the Staple Singers and many, many more.
He has released five independent albums (Killin’ Time -1980, Been So Long -1989, No Tell Hotel -1992, Lionel Rault - 2004 and The Further Adventures of… -2007) and was the first active performer to be inducted into The Edmonton Blues Hall of Fame, but none of these endeavours ever captured the magic I experienced listening to my dad play his brand of blues/roots/folk around the house as I was growing up.
In the summer of 2014 I invited my dad into my basement and requested my favourite tunes in the style that I am accustomed to - one take, just him and his guitar. This collection (aptly named Linedriver, as he is known by his closest friends) is a combination of original and cover materials in an attempt to document my dads music the way I grew up with it.
After sitting on the tracks for a year and a half, I have decided to release them for the worlds listening pleasure, on this, Lionel Rault's 65th Birthday.
